History of Simhapuri Shakti Peedam

Simhapuri Shakti Peedam traces its humble beginnings to two small-scale peedams in Singapore — Sri Simhapuri Maha Samayapura Mariamman Peedam (SSMSMP) and Arulmigu Sri Mariamman Peedam (ASMP). These peedams were independently established in honour of Sri Samayapura Mariamman and Sri Mariamman respectively, within the residences of Peedatipathis Shashedearan and Saravanan.

The word Simhapuri refers to Singapore — the Lion City — while Peedam signifies a sacred abode where Ambal resides and blesses devotees. Together, the name Simhapuri Shakti Peedam symbolises “the sacred abode of Ambal in the Lion City.”

For many years, both peedams devoted themselves to the worship of Devi through special poojas, annual Aadi Brahmotsavams, Ambal Purapaadu, and Shakti Koottu Vazhipaadu, fostering devotion and spiritual upliftment within the community.

In 2010, the two independently operating peedams united under one spiritual umbrella as Simhapuri Shakti Peedam (SSP), with the vision of further strengthening Shakti worship and spreading the glory of Devi to mankind.

A major spiritual milestone took place on 9 June 2013, when the Peedatipathis, Saravanan (fondly known as Anna) and Shashedearan, were initiated into the sacred Sri Vidya tradition by Srilasri Chaitanyananda Natha Saraswati, the Peedatipathi of Sri Rajarajeswari Peetam in Rush, New York.

Subsequently, the first Maha Kumbabishegam was conducted on 23 June 2013 at Anna Saravanan’s residence in Choa Chu Kang by the revered Siva Sri Manikhandan Gurukkal of Johor Bahru. During this sacred ceremony, a 3-foot granite murti of Sri Mariamman was sanctified and consecrated according to Agama Sastras, officially establishing the peedam as Simhapuri Shakti Peedam.

In 2023, Anna received his Poorna Diksha from his Guru, Sri Haran Aiya, and was bestowed the spiritual name Sri Tejomayananda Natha Saraswati.

As the peedams continued to grow, and expanded further in 2026 into two branches:

  • Simhapuri Sri Matrka Sakti Peedam (Choa Chu Kang)
  • Simhapuri Sri Vidya Peedam (Lower Delta Road)

These expansions were established to better facilitate the increasing number of devotees and spiritual activities.
